Next week I’m putting on the first Radiant show outside of FBi Social - LA Vampires’ first and only show in Sydney, along with three fantastic Sydney supports: Holy Balm, Kirin J Callinan and Guerre.

Should be a huge night - hope to see you there. Tickets are $20+bf and onsale now from Moshtix - make sure you lock yours down!

Full info as follows:

Radiant and Room40 are very excited to announce that LA VAMPIRES (USA) will be performing in Sydney for one night only on September 8, 2011.

LA VAMPIRES is the shapeshifting soundsystem universe of Amanda Beth Brown (co-runner of Not Not Fun Records and ex-Pocahaunted voodoo-ist). Hers is an evolving vibe, utilizing a web of slowed/screwed tapes, boombox Casio FX, low end theories, and bleached voice patterns to conjure a reverb chamber’s worth of dance floor mirages. To date she’s released four collaborations, each more different than the last, with underground luminaries Zola Jesus, Ital, Matrix Metals and Psychic Reality.

Touring for the first time outside of the US West Coast, she’ll be performing live with Britt Brown (co-runner of Not Not Fun, Pocahaunted bandmate and Robedoor member) and Nick Malkin (Queen Victoria).

They will be joined on the night by psychedelic dance jam trio HOLY BALM, the intimate and spectacular KIRIN J CALLINAN and ambient R&B maestro GUERRE.

Hey all,

After Monday’s incredible show - surely the highlight of my short time on air, with a huge thanks to everyone who played - i decided to do something a little more special than a regular podcast.

I’ve put the Christmas tracks performed on the show up as a free EP download on Bandcamp. Download it, share it, enjoy it, support the artists, etc.

The tracklist:

1. Kirin J Callinan - Merry Christmas 02:15
2. Packwood - Oh Holy Night 04:02
3. The Maple Trail - Do You Hear What I Hear? 03:52
4. A Casual End Mile & R. Somerset - Silent Night 03:26
5. The Preachers - Run Rudolph Run 02:20
6. The Holy Soul - Six White Boomers 04:35

There’s 7 more live tracks from the show - each artist performed an original - and they’ll all go up as part of a more conventional podcast soon.

Thanks for your support in 2010 and have a great break.

Kirin J Callinan: Live on Radiant

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]  70 plays

I’ve seen Kirin perform a few times now, and found his music both mysterious and spectacular. His unique vocal style projects lyrics that can be both unsettling and hilarious, and it’s heightened by overwhelming, effect-driven guitar soundscapes.

So I wasn’t expecting him to play unplugged, and didn’t quite know what to expect when he arrived sans-amp. But it turned out to be one of the most spontaneous, fun sets we’ve had so far.

Kirin performed a handful of songs, recited a poem, and talked about recording a live album, Youtube sensation Tonetta (p.s. that link ain’t safe for work) and playing with Jack Ladder. He also let us preview a couple of tracks from his upcoming EP release, and was kind enough to let us leave them on the podcast. Enjoy.
