We have a new act and a poster for the second Radiant Live!

I’m super stoked to have Single Twin opening. The solo project of former Deloris frontman Marcus Teague, he’s got an album coming out in a couple of months and will be playing a gorgeous solo set to open up proceedings. This lineup is wild, I hope you enjoy it and come early to see all four amazing bands.

You can download some of Single Twin’s music for free here

And a massive, massive thanks to Jacinda Fermanis for making this month’s poster.

Announcing Radiant Live #2 ft. Charge Group, Coolies (NZ) and Alps

I’m super super stoked to announce the second Radiant Live. The first one was a riot (thankyou to all who came!), and this one should be ridiculous. Poster coming soon.

When was the last time you saw Charge Group? It can’t have been recently, because it’s been over a year since their last Sydney show. But with a new album due for release later this year, we’re incredibly excited to welcome them back to the stage as headliners of the second Radiant Live. Comprised mostly of members of the fondly-remembered Purplene, Charge Group mix indie rock with gorgeous, violin laced soundscapes. It’s sure to be a thrill for those familiar, and a delight for those uninitiated.

Even harder to catch are South Auckland’s Coolies, who are making the leap across the Tasman for their first Australian tour in several years. With over a decade of history that includes lineup changes (they now feature Stefan aka legendary experimental musician Pumice on drums), releases on Kill Rock Stars/Chapter and international tours with Ariel Pink, Deerhoof, Erase Errata and plenty more, we’re stoked to have The Coolies bring their loose, noisy live show to Radiant Live.

Alps rounds out the lineup. One of Newcastle’s finest musicians, his latest record Alps Of New South Wails got a new batch of fans familiar with something that many of us have known for some time - that he’s a master of lo-fi pop. In fact, quite frankly, he’s too good to be opening bills. So it’s a thrill to have him complete what will be an unmissable lineup. Get there early, you need to see this set.

Podcasts are up! Finally. Some technical issues with them today, but it’s all sorted.

Here it is, the motherload. As always, please subscribe to our podcast if you’re an itunes user (the link is above) and have them all delivered automatically! But here’s download links too.

February 7: Alps, Bare Grillz and Mere Women (all live in the studio)

This was a wild show. I welcomed Alps back to the studio for the second time, this time performing with a backing band - all three members of Bare Grillz, who also performed a set. And to round it out, we had new Sydney act Mere Women perform as well. It was a mini gig in the studio! With snappy interviews and three live sets, this podcast is for the live music nuts. All three sets sound incredible for our humble studio, and the performances are great - one of my favourite shows so far.

January 31: Unity Floors (Live + Interview)

I first heard Unity Floors a couple of months ago and was really impressed - for a brand new band, their 2-piece indie was just straight-up great music. So i got them on the show. With just a demo out, it’s a great chance to find a new favourite Sydney band - their live set was a lot of fun and it was great to hear about how they got started.

January 24: The Hummingbirds (Live + Interview)

Plenty of folks were pretty shocked when, 17 years after breaking up, The Hummingbirds were quietly added to the lineup of this year’s Big Day Out. A fantastic, jangly Sydney pop band with a handful of EPs and LPs released in the early 90s, they’ve gained quite a reputation as their music has been rediscovered over the last few years. So I was stoked when their two singers, Alannah Russack and Simon Holmes, agreed to come in for an acoustic set and interview on the eve of this one-off show. And it was worth the anticipation, with two tremendous songs and a great chat about getting the band back together after almost two decades.

January 17: La Dispute (Interview) and To The North (Live + Interview)

On their second tour of Australia, rising post-hardcore band La Dispute took time out of their busy schedule for a fantastic interview about overseas touring and the importance of community in the punk scene. And their tour mates, To The North, also came in for both an interview and live set. To top it all off, we had everyone in the studio together for one last interview. Killer!

January 10: David Studdert (Live + Interview)

Former Tactics frontman David Studdert came into the studio for a rare live performance and a lengthy chat as he prepares to release his solo album “Hanging By A Thread”. Great interview, great songs, great show.

The track up top is The Hummingbirds with She Knows. SO LUSH.

Five great podcasts for your perusal. Enjoy.

Last night’s Valentine’s Special with The Maladies and Michael Crafter will be up soon. And listen in this week - Charge Group are live in the studio! I haven’t seen them live for a long time… pretty excited.

Alps: Narwhal (Live on Radiant)

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]  3 plays

I’ve been slack with getting the podcasts up of late, so expect three this week. First up is a fantastic double-bill in the Radiant studio, Alps (Newcastle) and Zack Kouns (USA).

Both solo artists, Alps and Zack Kouns toured Australia together in late July and were kind enough to come on the show to play a couple of songs each and chat about their music. Alps played some fantastic downtempo DIY pop, while Zack Kouns took a similar aesthetic into much more experimental territory. It’s up on the podcast now… enjoy.
